Welcome to our Getting Started with CodeHop webinar. My name is Crystal Holderman, a Customer Success Manager with CodeHS and CodeHop, joined by Katie Williams from our curriculum development team. At CodeHop, our mission is to empower K-5 students to impact the future through computer science and interdisciplinary lessons in ELA, science, math, and social studies.

We offer two primary platforms embedded directly into our site: CodeHop Junior (based on ScratchJr) and CodeHop Blocks (based on Scratch). When you sign in, your homepage allows you to explore courses and create new sections. You can choose a dedicated computer science pathway for digital literacy and coding, or an interdisciplinary pathway to incorporate coding into other subjects.

To set up a section, select your grade level and choose a course, such as the Second Grade Computer Science pathway. You can name your section (e.g., "Mrs. H’s Second Grade") and even import students from Google Classroom. Once created, you can add students manually by name, upload a CSV, or invite a co-teacher. We offer several student login options, including QR codes, picture passwords, and Google Sign-on.

A key setting is the "Default Playground." We recommend CodeHop Junior for grades K-2 and CodeHop Blocks for grades 3-5. In the Lessons tab, you can control visibility; items in color are visible to students, while grayed-out items are hidden. You can also assign lessons to specific students, which is helpful for differentiation or managing fast finishers.

Our lesson plans are designed to be "low lift" for teachers. Each lesson includes ready-to-go slides with embedded videos, objectives, and interactive games. Lessons follow an "I do, we do, you do" structure. The teacher can use the "Push to Students" button to automatically launch the starter code on every student's screen simultaneously. Teacher resources include solution codes, printable instructions in English and Spanish, and assessment rubrics.

In the Teacher Dashboard, the Progress tab allows you to track student completion in real-time. The Playground area lets you create custom projects, such as debugging exercises, to share with your classes. Finally, our Resources section offers walkthrough videos, state-specific pathways, and supplemental materials like "Coding in the Wild" articles. If you need help, our support team is available via the blue help button on the site.
