Welcome to our professional learning community session for the school year for APCSA. We are excited that you all joined us this evening. My name is Stephanie Bennett, a PD specialist at CodeHS, joined by Steve, who has taught CSA and computer science for many years.

Today's session covers pacing, helping students prepare for the exam all school year long, and a deep dive into units one and two. We discuss how to handle students of differing ability levels, address misconceptions quickly, and build a collaborative environment where CSA educators share ideas, resources, and assessment strategies to improve student outcomes.

Teachers share their diverse schedules, from trimester and block scheduling to traditional periods, and discuss strategies for meeting students where they are, using collaborative coding exercises, and navigating the transition from Python to Java. We also explore exam preparation techniques, including utilizing AP classroom resources, mid-unit assessments from the updated Cortado course, and engaging review games like 100-boards to build familiarity with College Board language. Finally, we look at unit one misconceptions, such as method signatures and algebraic foundations, and emphasize the importance of fostering independent problem-solving skills and student support routines.
