MODULES - 6

  • Bienvenido

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Nevada standards does this course align to?

It covers 100% of the Nevada Computer Science and Applications standards. It also covers 94% of Nevada Tech 9-12 and 93% of Nevada Tech 6-8, so it does most of the work for those frameworks too.

What do students program in?

Python and HTML, plus physical computing on the micro:bit. Students start with Turtle Graphics in Python, learn HTML and CSS for the web design units, and then program micro:bit devices.

Do students need hardware for the micro:bit units?

The course includes three micro:bit units, so schools running those units will need the devices or they can use the online simulator provided by micro:bit.

What does the course cover?

Computer science and computational thinking through Python and HTML, plus algorithms, documentation, security and privacy, communication and collaboration, and data visualisation. A Building Mathematical Models unit connects the programming to maths.

Which grades is this course for?

It is the 9th and 10th grade course in the Nevada High School Computer Science pathway.

How long is the course?

About 80 contact hours, built to run as a semester course. It is the only Nevada high school course that is not a full year.
