UNITS - 5 (34 lessons)
Students revisit core programming vocabulary, coordinate-plane animation, and sprite creation to reinforce foundational coding skills.
Students apply computational thinking, explore computing systems, and build keyboarding skills to prepare for programming.
Students build digital citizenship and research skills, covering cybersecurity, cyberbullying, digital footprints, productivity tools, and how networks move information.
Students strengthen programming fluency by building algorithms, functions, variables, and conditionals through a connected skill-review series.
Students apply coding to real-world topics across math, science, ELA, and social studies, from historical timelines to area, perimeter, and shape classification.

The course introduces 4th grade students to computer science and digital literacy using CodeHop, a block-based programming language. Students build programming skills like algorithms, functions, variables, and conditionals, develop digital citizenship skills including cybersecurity and research attribution, and apply coding to math, science, ELA, and social studies.
The course is aligned to South Carolina 4th Grade Computer Science and Digital Literacy standards, with individual lessons in the Interdisciplinary Exploration module also mapped to specific SC academic standards in math (4.MGSR) and social studies (4.2.CO), plus science standards such as 4-PS4-1.
No. The course has no prerequisites and is designed to support all learners, regardless of prior computer science experience.
The course includes 19 standards-aligned lessons and 17 exploration lessons, each about 45 minutes long, for a total of roughly 36 hours. Teaching one lesson per week provides a full school year of material, though teachers can adapt the pace to fit their own schedule.
Students write and run programs in CodeHop, a block-based programming environment embedded directly in their CodeHS accounts, where they can create and debug interactive projects.
