This course is designed to provide computer science instruction for New York 1st grade students. Students learn programming and principles of computer science including: computing systems, research, algorithms and programming, and computer safety.

UNITS - 10 (39 lessons)
Students get an optional refresher on logging into CodeHop and revisit the story-driven Scout Adventures series to review exploring the interface, adding characters and backgrounds, and sequencing motion blocks and events.
Students learn basic computer hardware and software concepts, explore responsible technology use, and apply computational thinking to their evening routines.
Students build interactive programs using event blocks, hide/show and grow/shrink blocks, and basic data collection, while practicing debugging and exploring how coding is used in fashion-related careers.
Students collaborate on unplugged card-game activities that use loops to guide Scout through a maze.
Students learn to use repeat and forever loops to run and repeat sections of code, applying them to a butterfly-catching game and a dance party animation.
Students learn to use message events so one character can trigger or communicate with others, applying this along with speed blocks in a relay race, a Simon Says game, and a bouncy ball animation.
Students use "go to page" blocks, messages, and loops to build multi-page interactive projects including a tapping game, a mini golf game, and a digital greeting card.
Students use the grid system to program characters through mazes and races and to create a grid-based animation, including use of the "end" block.
Students apply their cumulative coding skills to plan a personal "About Me" program and to build an interactive river-crossing game with adjustable difficulty.
Students build digital literacy skills including conducting guided research, creating strong passwords, exploring the impacts of computing on their community, modeling variables and data storage, understanding networks and the Internet, and collaborating digitally with others.
