Kindergarten students build a foundation in digital skills and computer science. They learn to log in and use a mouse and keyboard, tell the difference between hardware and software, and practice being kind and keeping information safe online. They also explore how computers affect daily life and careers, collect and analyze simple data, and take their first steps into AI by sorting items with decision trees and training an AI to recognize an alien called a Blorg.
No. The course begins with lessons that teach students how to log in, use a mouse to click and drag, and use the letters, numbers, and basic keys on a keyboard. Many lessons are also unplugged, so students learn computer science concepts through hands-on activities away from the screen.
The course includes 19 teacher-led lessons, each about 30 minutes long, organized into six modules, with module quizzes to check understanding. Lessons follow an "I do, we do, you do" format and mix hands-on programming projects with unplugged activities. The course is flexible and can be taught in any order, and because concepts spiral across grade levels, students build on what they learned even if not every lesson is completed in a single year.
Kindergarten Digital Literacy & AI is aligned to state computer science standards and CSTA standards.
