2nd grade students learn how computer parts connect and work together and create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. They explore digital citizenship, including digital footprints and reporting cyberbullying, and learn how technology has changed the world while coding a fashion design animation. Students also research their own questions, collect survey data and present it in a program, and explore how AI helps people and how machine learning recognizes drawings.
The word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation lessons let students create real projects, such as a document about their favorite season and a presentation about their favorite things. Students will need access to productivity software, such as Google or Microsoft tools, on a classroom device.
The course includes 17 teacher-led lessons, each about 45 minutes long, organized into six modules, with module quizzes to check understanding. Lessons follow an "I do, we do, you do" format and mix hands-on programming projects with unplugged activities. The course is flexible and can be taught in any order, and because concepts spiral across grade levels, students build on what they learned even if not every lesson is completed in a single year.
