Exploring Computer Science is a semester-long, high school introductory course built for students with no prior programming experience. It's commonly used as a first computer science course at the middle-to-high-school transition (often 8th and 9th grade) and has no prerequisites. It's a strong starting point for any student curious about computing, whether or not they plan to continue in the field.
Yes. This course is in 100% alignment with the Utah Exploring Computer Science framework.
Students write and run JavaScript and HTML in the browser using the CodeHS editor, and they explore physical computing hands-on with the micro:bit through the MakeCode editor. Because the Utah framework includes physical computing standards, the course dedicates full modules to programming a micro:bit, from lighting LEDs to using sensors and external components. Arduino modules are also available as a supplemental alternative for classrooms that prefer it.
