This course is aligned to TN standards and is designed to provide computer science instruction for Tennessee fifth grade students. It is meant to be taught approximately once per week. This course also includes interdisciplinary lessons in math, science, and ELA to support cross-curricular integration.

UNITS - 9 (32 lessons)
Students refresh skills with the coordinate plane, programming vocabulary, and foundational programming concepts.
Students deepen understanding of computing systems, learn to recognize and respond to cyberbullying, and apply computational thinking to design challenges.
Students compare and refine algorithms for efficiency, debug complex programs, create turtle graphics with loops, and design multi-scene animations.
Students create maze programs using pseudocode planning and use operators to build decision-driven games.
Students manage complex data using variables and lists, apply comparison operators to game mechanics, and build interactive simulations.
Students explore object-oriented programming patterns, create games with clones, understand classes and objects, and create functions with inputs.
Students design and create original games using multiple programming skills and develop apps to address identified user needs.
Students search effectively online with proper attribution, create data visualizations, understand cybersecurity policies and laws, and explore how technology shapes communities.
Students apply coding to division, fractions, ecosystem modeling, natural processes, pollution effects, creative writing, and research projects on computer science innovators.

Students design and create original games from scratch, develop apps to solve user-identified problems, create data visualizations, build ecosystem models, and design animations.
The course includes 36 lessons, each approximately 45 minutes, taught once per week across the full school year for 36 total instructional hours.
