This course is aligned to GA standards and is designed to provide computer science instruction for Georgia first grade students. It is meant to be taught approximately once per week. This course also includes optional interdisciplinary lessons in math, science, ELA, and social studies to support cross-curricular integration.

UNITS - 10 (46 lessons)
Students practice foundational skills with the CodeHopJr interface and create animated stories using characters, backgrounds, and motion blocks.
Students learn computer basics, discover how computers work in the world around them, and develop positive online behavior skills.
Students create programs that respond to user interactions by using event blocks to trigger character actions and animations.
Students learn to use repeat and forever loops to make characters perform actions multiple times efficiently and create dynamic animations.
Students use messages to program interactions between characters, coordinating their actions across multiple sprites in a single program.
Students design multi-page programs and learn to navigate between pages using "go to page" blocks for interactive game experiences.
Students use grid-based navigation to create maze-solving programs and design movement challenges for characters.
Students apply all their skills to create original games and interactive stories, including character design and difficulty levels.
Students explore how AI and data work, learn about online safety and passwords, and understand how the internet connects people.
Students integrate computer science with math, science, language arts, and social studies through cross-curricular projects.

Students learn block-based programming including sequences, events, loops, message passing, and pages. They create animated stories and interactive games while developing computational thinking skills.
No. The course is designed to support all learners regardless of prior experience. Students start with the basics and gradually build their programming skills throughout the year.
Students work in CodeHopJr, a user-friendly interface designed specifically for young learners. The platform uses visual blocks that students drag and drop to create programs.
The course follows a one-lesson-per-week format across the full school year (36 instructional hours total). Each lesson uses an "I do, we do, you do" format with introduction, guided practice, independent practice, extension, and reflection.
Students create animated stories featuring the character Scout, design games with difficulty levels, program characters to solve mazes, and build interactive projects that respond to mouse clicks and keyboard input.
