UNITS - 9 (49 lessons)

  • Optional Review

Reviews foundational programming concepts from the previous year, including events, repeat and forever loops, and message events.

  • Getting Started

Introduces how computer components connect and work together, reinforces responsible technology use, and applies computational thinking to school day routines.

  • Sequences and Events

Develops sequencing and event skills through debugging exercises and grid-based movement, then applies them to CS careers, data pattern analysis, money, word problems, and geometry.

  • Message Events

Teaches students to use message events to control program flow and model cycles, page navigation, computer networks, and a 3D shapes quiz game.

  • Loops

Uses loops to identify patterns and build programs, including debugging loop-based code, an original animated story, and a model of seed dispersal.

  • Culmination Projects

Has students review and integrate the year's coding skills to build a racing game and a multi-page adventure game as culminating projects.

  • Digital Literacy

Covers digital literacy topics including keyboarding, password safety, an introduction to AI through decision trees and AutoDraw, survey-based data collection, and research skills.

  • Interdisciplinary Connections (Supplemental)

Offers supplemental cross-curricular coding projects linking programming to math concepts like place value and number comparison, and to science and social studies topics like landforms, matter, erosion, and community environments.

  • Preparing for Next Year

Prepares students for more advanced coding by introducing conditionals through unplugged card games and transitioning them from the CodeHopJr interface to the CodeHop Blocks editor.
