This course will teach students to program with the Kibo® Robot. Students will create programs for interdisciplinary subjects as well as computer science-focused lessons.
UNITS - 3 (3 lessons)
Students learn the Kibo® robotic kit and create sequences to program Kibo®.
Students will program Kibo® to model adding and subtracting.
Students will create a program with Kibo® to communicate across distances using light and sound signals.

Students learn the inputs and outputs of the Kibo robot and how to put commands in order to create sequences. They then use loops to model addition and subtraction on a number line and create programs that use Kibo's light and sound to communicate across distances.
Students program Kibo by arranging and scanning Kibo's physical programming blocks rather than coding inside CodeHS, so the robot can be programmed without a screen. You will need a Kibo robotics kit. CodeHS provides the lesson plans, slides, and rubrics, and every lesson includes slides in both English and Spanish.
Coding with Kibo is designed for grades K-2, and no prior coding experience is needed. The first lesson introduces the Kibo kit and how to build a sequence, and the math and science lessons build on that skill.
The course includes three 45-minute lessons, about 2 hours and 15 minutes of instruction. Each lesson focuses on a different area: an introduction to Kibo, math, and science.
Coding with Kibo lessons are aligned to many state computer science standards, and they also connect to Common Core Math and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
